Director of Marketing & Customer Acquisition

The Director of Marketing & Customer Acquisition is directly responsible for developing and executing a strategy to rapidly and affordably grow thredUP’s membership base. As a senior member of the thredUP leadership team, this Director will be involved in virtually all major strategy decisions affecting the long-term success of thredUP as a leading consumer brand on the web.

We need an A+ player able to take on a variety of responsibilities (that’s the life of a start-up) while simultaneously building a customer acquisition engine that is not only robust and agile, but built on a defensible hypothesis for long-term success.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with current founding team to develop offline and online strategy for customer acquisition
  • Develop detailed metrics for tracking performance of different customer acquisition approaches;
  • Work closely with CEO and engineers to deliver timely feedback about customer experience to ensure rapid iteration of core product.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone with superior communication, project management and quantitative analysis skills. Someone with experience working with, building and leading high performing teams is crucial.

Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer

A Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer at thredUP is a leading member of the engineering team focused primarily on building new features into the product and optimizing the current system. This person will be involved not only in working individually but also helping others on the team build their back end competency. They will be heavily involved in technology strategy and system architecture and will be responsible for the implementation.

The engineering environment at thredUP is fast paced and very agile. We use a modified scrum framework for our project management on a 2-week sprint cycle. We are looking for a hard-working, energetic developer that can handle some of the chaos that comes with the speed we move. We need a quick decision maker that can see more than just the roots of the trees.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the CTO on implementation strategy for new features and refinements for the service.
  • Work with front-end team members to help plan out required hooks, work around design constraints and consider system/technology limitations
  • Contribute to core product strategy discussions and bring new and well thought out ideas to the table.
  • Develop the system back-end, with a test-driven development approach, keeping scalability and efficiency top of mind
  • Help with front-end integration when needed
  • Help with technical side of customer service when needed
  • Contribute heavily to the feedback loop on the development process in order improve team productivity

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone with a great work ethic and strong self-management skills. They must be a strong communicator and be comfortable with uncertainty and a little chaos. Experience in a fast paced team development environment is a must.

The job is hard and you must be comfortable with the uncertainty of a small agile team. Bugs and problems rarely come one at a time. They usually come all at once right at the most busy times. You should not be worried or panicked under pressure and in fact thrive.

You also must:

  • Have very strong ruby skills. No exception.

Frontend UX Optimization Engineer

Are you obsessed about the customer experience? Do you want to make sure your sites are so clear and easy to use that no one is ever confused? If so, then this role may be perfect for you.

The Frontend UX Optimization Engineer will drive the process behind testing and iterating on our user interface design and communication. They will be crucial to the success of the company. If customers are confused, they ask, “what can we do better?” and then they improve it, test it and improve it some more. They are obsessed with not just finding an intuitive solution but one that can be proven to be more optimal.

  • Improve the customer experience and conversion by designing appropriate A/B (and multivariate) tests and implementing them
  • Build and integrate frontend designs for new or improved “features”
  • Improve page load times through asset optimization
  • Uncover the user “onboarding” problems then implement and test solutions
  • Benchmark all aspects of page performance from load times to conversion
  • Contribute heavily to the feedback loop on the development process in order to improve team productivity
