thredUP has partnered up with cradles to crayons

According to the National Retail Federation, the average family with school age children spends about $600 on back to school items. For many this is a real burden and the reason why Boston & Philadelphia based Cradles to Crayons came into being. Their core mission is to provide underprivileged children with back-to-school clothing and supplies.

Throughout the month of August, thredUP will donate $1 to Cradles to Crayons for every transaction on the swap site. thredUP will also promote this campaign at BlogHer, a major blogger convention on August 6-7.

BlogHer attendees are encouraged to stop by the thredUP booth and make a "Green School Year Pledge," vowing to reduce, reuse or recycle kids clothing and school supplies this year. For every signature secured at the event, thredUP will donate an additional $1 to C2C.

Founded in 2002, Cradles to Crayons (C2C) is an innovative Quincy-based nonprofit organization that provides new and gently-used essentials, including clothes, shoes, books, and toys, to children living in homeless or low income situations. "For the families we serve, buying back-to-school items such as new clothing or a backpack is often not an option," says Lynn Margherio, Founder & CEO of Cradles to Crayons. "Cradles to Crayons is proud to partner with thredUP to provide disadvantaged children with the basic essentials they need to thrive".
