Cambridge, MA - 2010-08-02

Clothing exchange company partners with local nonprofit to raise money for kids clothing and school supplies

Cambridge, MA- thredUP, the premier peer-to-peer online kids clothing exchange, today announced a partnership with Cradles to Crayons to provide underprivileged children with back-to-school clothing and supplies.

Cradles to Crayons provides new and gently-used essentials, including clothes, shoes, books, and toys, to children living in homeless or low income situations. "For the families we serve, buying back-to-school items such as new clothing or a backpack is often not an option," says Lynn Margherio, Founder & CEO of Cradles to Crayons. "Cradles to Crayons is proud to partner with thredUP to provide disadvantaged children with the basic essentials they need to thrive."

Throughout the month of August, thredUP will donate $1 to Cradles to Crayons for every transaction on the swap site. thredUP will also promote this campaign at BlogHer, a major blogger convention on August 6-7. BlogHer attendees are encouraged to stop by the thredUP booth and make a "Green School Year Pledge," vowing to reduce, reuse or recycle kids clothing and school supplies this year. For every signature secured at the event, thredUP will donate an additional $1 to C2C.

"As America's #1 online kids clothing swap, thredUP was founded on a very simple yet common problem: Clothes don't grow, and Kids do," notes James Reinhart, Chief Knitwit of thredUP. "We are thrilled to support a cause that aims to provide children with the resources they need, as they grow."

According to the National Retail Federation, the average family with school age children spends about $600 on back to school items. thredUP provides tremendous value to families looking to save money this back-to-school season. The unique swapping platform gives customers the ability to exchange outgrown kids clothing for back-to-school gear that fits - all online, without leaving the house. The service has already helped parents save an estimated $350,000 on kids clothing.
