Co-founder & CEO
James is a serial entrepreneur and recent graduate of the Harvard Business School and the Harvard Kennedy School where he was both a Bill George Fellow at the Center for Public Leadership and an HBS Goldsmith Fellow. Prior to HBS/HKS, while working in the Bay Area, he helped build one of the nation's premier public schools, Pacific Collegiate School - recently named the #3 school in America by US News & World Report. He is a product of New Jersey public schools and Boston College.
John spent four years as Director and Vice President of Operations Engineering at Netflix, developing solutions for automating millions of transactions per day. As Chief Systems Officer for Qwikster, he built the team to manage and divest the DVD financial, billing, metadata, logistics and content management systems. Previously, he was the founding principle of the John Voris Industrial Engineering Group, specializing in new product introductions, aggressive production ramps and operations development for companies like SpaceX, Cisco Systems, Fox Racing, and Shutterfly. He is an advisor for Shipwire, a fast growing logistics provider.
Anthony serves as Chief Marketing Officer at thredUP, and is responsible for customer acquisition, product strategy, merchandising, and design. Before thredUP, Anthony spent seven years on the leadership team of Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group, leading its investment program and product innovation teams in North America. Previously, Anthony was a Principal at Venrock, the venture capital arm of the Rockefeller family office, and also held strategy, product marketing, and business development roles at Telcordia Technologies (formerly Bell Labs). Anthony earned an AB, magna cum laude, from Princeton University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Co-founder & CTO
Chris leads the engineering team as they build the thredUP platform. His primary focus is on setting the technical direction for the company and building a tight group of talented developers. Chris is an inventor and a tinkerer that can't wait to talk big ideas and think about how to solve the inherent technical challenges. In his previous life, he worked at Microsoft before focusing on building something from the ground up. He holds a BS in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Co-founder & CCO
Oliver, Lead UI Designer, was previously the Technology Director at Foley Hoag LLP. Prior to joining Foley, Oliver earned a Master of Science in Healthcare Technology Management at Marquette University. He has worked in marketing and technology consulting for the past six years and holds a degree in Computer Science from Boston College.
Software Engineering Intern
Bilal is pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer and Electrical Engineering at IG2I (Centrale Lille) in France and has a passion for emerging technologies. He has always wanted to join the startup scene in Silicon Valley and he found a perfect match with thredUP. Bilal enjoys travelling, playing soccer and trying new restaurants.
After graduating from Cal Poly Pomona in 2012 with a BFA in graphic design, Chevail started at an environmental design firm in Los Angeles, working with clients such as 2K, Oculus Rift, and NBC. After two years in the exhibit and trade show industry he was eager to get his foot in the digital design door and was curious about the startup scene. When he discovered thredUP, Chevail realized it was the perfect opportunity to push his passion for branding and online design to the next level, and immerse himself in the field. During his down time you can find him eating good food, dancing, or maybe jumping out of a plane (parachute included).
Senior Director of Merchandising
Kristy leads inventory sourcing and visual merchandising at thredUP, ensuring that we're selling quality clothing and it all looks great on the site! Prior to diving into the fashion re-commerce world, she spent three years in merchandising and marketing manager roles at Piperlime. The SoCal native puts her degrees in Psychology, Fashion Design and Merchandising, and Architecture and Interior Design to use overseeing thredUP's merchandising, photography and quality teams. Kristy's a fashionista as well as a travelista and has loved traveling to places like Africa, India, China and South East Asia for her career. These days, the new mom enjoys being closer to home with her husband and son Kade.
Operations Training Supervisor
Alba graduated from CSU Sacramento with degrees in apparel marketing and design determined to pursue a career in apparel - and she did! She applies her love of fashion and talent for management to ensure that the clothing listed on thredUP is in like-new condition. Prior to joining thredUP, she spent several years in retail management developing an expertise in visual merchandising, e-commerce, wardrobe styling and resale. When Alba's not perfecting our clothing screening process, you can find her dancing with her salsa team, staying active or glued to Niners football.
Jessi graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with degrees in Creative Writing and French. She came to San Francisco to check out the startup scene and find her way into the fashion re-commerce movement. Prior to joining the thredUP team, she was the buyer and marketing manager for an online boutique that specialized in juniors and girls clothing. Jessi spends her spare time obsessing over Australian fashion, drinking coffee at Jane, and reading truckloads of campy horror novels.
After six and a half years at Gap, Maggie was curious about the local startup craze and thredUP offered the perfect blend of fashion, design, branding and anticipated Silicon Valley startup culture to lure her away from the retailer. Her talent for brand design was uncovered before she made her mark at Gap when she consulted for broadcast, print and digital advertising campaigns for national consumer brands including Beringer, Petco and AAA. Maggie holds a BFA in advertising from Academy of Art University, is a self-taught web designer and enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants (preferably both together) and sleeping in on weekends.
Lennon moved from Zimbabwe in 2010 to study Computer Science at Stanford University. He began working with the thredUP team four years ago as an intern and he kept coming back year after year for more of the fun culture. Upon graduating from Stanford, he was finally able to join the team as a full-time software engineer. In his free time, Lennon enjoys an occasional game of pick-up ultimate frisbee.
After graduating from Duke in 2011, Brayden taught for Chicago Public Schools for a year before diving into programming. The operations engineering team works smart to solve challenging problems and he is excited to be part of such a talented team at thredUP. Brayden hails from Baltimore and yes, he has seen The Wire.
Organic Growth Manager
After graduating from McGill University with a major in Environmental Science and a minor in Gender Studies, Madeline moved back to her hometown of New York City. There she joined the founding editorial team that launched xoJane.com, Jane Pratt's women's lifestyle site. Years later, Madeline left xoJane for Ann Taylor's marketing team. Madeline is a recent Bay Area transplant living in Oakland. When she's not managing thredUP's ambassador and influencer programs, you'll find her at the cat café (that's mere blocks from her apartment), at spin class, or curled up on her patio with her book club's latest read.
Director of Shop Engineering
Dan joined the thredUP engineering team in 2010 after spending two years as a front-end engineer in Los Angeles. Dan has a BS in Computer Science Engineering from Michigan State University and he enjoys deleting code, performance optimization, squashing bugs, completing projects on time, Tottenham Hotspur, and breakfast sandwiches.
Tommy is an iOS Engineer at thredUP. Before moving to the Bay Area he worked in the consumer electronic industry, pushing the limits of Bluetooth related applications on mobile devices. On any given weekend, you can typically find him surfing, munching on nachos in the Mission or jamming with his band. Tommy holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Armed with a BAS in visual effects and a camera surgically attached to his hand, Nick Dolph loves nothing more than creating an image. From pre-production to final edits, he's passionate about creating photography that contains a story complete with places, characters and emotions. Voracious to learn everything about his craft, from shooting to post-production techniques, he is constantly experimenting, learning and generally having an obscene amount of fun. If there's a camera in front of his eye (which there usually is), you can bet Nick has a huge grin on his face.
When Will started turning thrift store t-shirts on eBay for profit over a decade ago, he had no idea he was destined for a career in secondhand clothing...but it kind of makes sense. To this day, he is still trying to figure out how he ended up working in the women's and kid's fashion business. Lucky for him, his coworkers are nice enough to explain the intricacies, often with the help of a Venn diagram or two. Lucky for thredUP, his role in operations and data analytics doesn't require being trendy, just being able to report out on it.
A Northern California native, Angelica came to us after graduating from the Academy of Art University with a degree in Fashion Merchandising. She previously worked in retail management and was eager to jump into a Product role for thredUP. Angelica loves being a part of an innovative environment where she can wear many hats and have a direct impact on customer experience. You will find Angelica eating tacos daily, obsessing over style blogs, revamping vintage furniture in her down time or squealing about bulldogs.
A treehugger at heart from Spring, Tx, Stephanie dedicated herself to the sales, marketing and education of consumers about sustainable real estate. She wrote a course for her local college, sat on committees in the Houston area and blogged her way to being known as the 'green' Realtor. However, the daily routine of real estate found her wanting more time with the family. Joining thredUP combined her love for sustainability and online community. You can find her outdoors enjoying the beauty of nature and teaching her children the importance of respecting the simple things in life.
Shortly after Kelly graduated from Kendall College of Art and Design with a BFA in Graphic Design she set out for San Francisco. She spent over six years as a graphic designer in the Bay Area before finding thredUP, where she's able to apply her two biggest passions, photography and people, to her work each day. Kelly loves every minute of her job at thredUP where she helps concept, curate and style the merchandising shoots.
VP of Finance, Planning and Analytics
As VP of Finance, Planning and Analytics, Al is tasked with riding herd on a group of extremely data driven people. In prior decades, Al was a submarine officer aboard USS Parche SSN 683 (ten hut!) and a founder and President of Integrated Flow Systems, a world leader in high purity chemical delivery systems for the Semiconductor OEM industry. Al takes particular pleasure in finding signal in the daily noise of operations and then affecting change. It's unicorns and rainbows if he can learn something new along the way. He holds a now underutilized BS in Chemistry from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!).
Morgan graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in chemistry and decided to apply her passion for math and problem solving towards computer programming. When the Michigan native moved cross-country to San Francisco, her decision to pursue programming was solidified and she's found a happy home working at thredUP. In her free time, Morgan can be found discovering new ways to fuse a passion for art with that of technology.
Manager, Growth and Customer Acquisition
Aakash is a manager on the growth team, committed to bringing the whole country onto the re-commerce bandwagon being led by thredUP. In his previous life, Aakash worked on his own startup, Rap to Beats. Prior to joining the startup world, Aakash analyzed consumer behavior at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and developed growth strategies for companies around the world as a management consultant. Aakash earned a BS in Economics and Psychology from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!). He enjoys travel, a good cup of coffee, and anything to do with the NBA.
Matthew moved to the Bay Area last year to act on his enthusiasm for software engineering. He graduated from the College of Wooster in 2010 with a BA in Economics that he has yet to use.
Senior Director of Data Science & Analytics
Cameran leads thredUP's data science efforts, combining advanced analytics and business acumen to propel the business forward through quantitative research. Prior to thredUP, Cameran was the Director of Analytics at VMware where she applied analytics to drive the adoption of Enterprise Social Software. She spent five years at The Disneyland Resort leading ticketing and hotel pricing efforts; Mickey had plenty of loyal visitors on season passes thanks to her work. Cameran holds an undergrad degree in Economics/Mathematics from UC Santa Barbara and graduated with honors from UC Irvine's MBA program. She lives in SF with her husband and bulldog, Pippa.
After graduating from Northeastern University with a BS in graphic design, Heidi began working at thredUP as a designer and front end coder. In the fall of the same year she moved with the company to San Francisco. Heidi had previously taught herself HTML and CSS but was eager to learn programming. She desperately wanted to understand the rest of the enginereing team who seemed to pass around a new techincal buzz word daily. She has now fully transitioned to the web development team and takes on any programming challenges that comes her way.
Dylan's startup accounting roster includes gaming media network Curse, Inc., Uber and now thredUP. He's heard every conceivable variation of "Maybe we can just list that expense next year?" and enjoys answering it each time. Solely crediting his unparalleled Excel skills for Uber's $18.2B valuation, Dylan is excited to now be the responsible gatekeeper of the finances at thredUP, where he has turned down all requests for a roof pool. When he's not sitting at the office looking across three screens of spreadsheets, Dylan's at home, shoeing his cats off the keyboard while looking at four screens of spreadsheets from other companies - just for fun. And no, for the last time, you can't expense that.
After graduating from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Kylie continued to build upon the software engineering foundation she acquired in school. She spent several years building computer network defense applications and communication systems for a large company. Although she thoroughly enjoyed her previous life, Kylie is thrilled to be a part of thredUP, getting to use the artistic side of her brain more, and helping to make thredUP even easier and more fun to use.
VP of Product
Bringing more than 20 years of leadership experience in product development, delivery and innovation, Julia is responsible for driving ThredUP product and user experience. She started her career as a software engineer in financial services and then moved on to work in technology for companies in healthcare, e-commerce, advertising, and media. Prior to joining thredUP, Julia held product leadership roles at @WalmartLabs, Kosmix, and Yahoo! Julia earned an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from University of California, Berkeley and an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France.
Director of Communications
Farrell began her public relations career in NYC one week after graduating from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She quickly earned her stripes as a fashion PR intern and assumed strategic roles on accounts for retail brands including Eddie Bauer, lululemon athletica, The Art of Shaving, Nestle Waters North America, Yoplait and RetailMeNot. Her move to San Francisco in 2012 sparked a passion for working with emerging technology companies that serve a consumer need, and introducing them to people across the country. When Farrell's not spreading the word about thredUP or enjoying the local foodie scene, she's likely in the nearby mountain ranges or visiting family and friends in Boston.
Serena brings three years of staffing experience and four years of experience as an early education teacher to her role in HR and recruiting at thredUP. She holds a bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State University in early education, which she put to good use early on in her career before falling in love with human resources. Serena is passionate about supporting the individuals who work hard each day to make an impact at thredUP.
Web Engineer Intern
Florian holds a masters degree in computer and industrial engineering from IG2I, an IT department of the French engineering school Centrale Lille. He graduated on July, 3, 2014 with experience working with retail and consulting companies as both a web and software engineer. The following day, he took the first flight from France to land in California with the firm intention to live and work in Silicon Valley. The thredUP team welcomed him and let him express his tech talents in the web team as a front/back engineer. Florian likes green test suites, a well prepared meal with a glass of wine, biking downhill in SF and the sunset on the Golden Gate Bridge.
Senior Data Integration Engineer
As thredUP's first data warehouse engineer, Aniket is responsible for creating data marts across the company's varied data sources. He has a Masters in MIS with a concentration in Business Intelligence that he put to use for four years at a BI startup in Arizona where he created large data warehouses international mining and energy clients. Aniket's search to work for a Silicon Valley ecommerce startup ended with thredUP, where he's excited to create the company's first data warehouse. Aniket has been a collegiate athlete, soccer and a table tennis player and enjoys a good discussion on global news, culture and sports. He is also the co-founder of a social media data warehouse company.
After obtaining his Computer Science degree at UC Berkeley in 2011, Edmundo was eager to get himself into the start-up scene and see what all the fuzz was about. He was not disappointed in the very least and now gets to happily code away as a part of the thredUP team.
Software Engineer, Operations Engineering
Originally from Calcutta, India, Nasheed moved to Indiana, to pursue higher education in 2008. After getting his BA, with majors in Computer Science and Economics from DePauw University, he acquired a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Indiana University Bloomington. Some of his most exciting past experiences include, teaching teenagers how to code as part of iDTech Programming Academy, and interning with Amazon in Seattle. Nasheed moved to the Bay Area in July ’14, to start working for thredUP with the intent of being part of a fast paced, agile startup environment where he could thrive as a developer. In his free time, Nasheed loves to bike, play guitar and catch some quality live music.
Ryan started his career as a rocket scientist, then spent the better part of the past decade working as a management consultant, advising the Joint Chiefs of Staff and three letter agencies on matters of national security. Fortunately, Ryan found his true passions, fashion resale and obscure programming languages, and could not be happier to be a part of the ThredUP team.
Customer Service / Operations
Shinta has a passion for problem solving and loves developing a good mobile experience. Prior to joining thredUP, she worked as a mobile developer for a large company for almost 3 years and was craving a change. She has been very happy to join the thredUP team. She enjoys developing the Android app while also being eager to learn new things and grow as a developer. Shinta has a BS in Computer and Information Science from Ohio State University. Outside of her geekiness, she also loves to eat, bake, and travel.
VP of Engineering for Operations & Back Office Systems
Lauren hails from a background of art and interior design. She graduated from California Polytechnic University of Pomona with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design with an approach to hands on learning. The self-proclaimed fashion guru keeps up with today’s latest trends, and her own design aesthetic conveniently aligns with the thredUP brand. Lauren is an avid craft beer drinker, anything with avocado muncher, wine enthusiast, letter press obsessor, Ravens football fanatic, and adventure lover. In her free time, you can catch her working on her hobby, theater set design.
Michelle authenticates and prices nearly every handbag on thredUP to ensure accurate resale pricing and make sure the bags are on trend. Her resume with high-end fashion retail experience, a passion about the construction of garments and degree in Fashion Merchandising made her a perfect fit for the role. The Sacramento native moved to the Bay Area in 2010 and fell in love with its creative vibe (especially the art scene in Oakland!) and startup culture. When Michelle's not surrounded by designer handbags at thredUP's distribution center, you can find her at local events with friends, networking and expressing her "edgy" side through fashion.
Samantha was raised in small town, Alabama where there's no shortage of southern hospitality. After attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham, she traded in her cowboy boots for flip flops and settled in on Florida's Gulf coast. Samantha stumbled upon thredUP in the fall of 2010, shortly after having her son, Mason, and she's been hooked ever since!
Jamie is a proud Army wife and stay-at-home mother of 2. She graduated from Southern Utah University with a degree in Early Childhood Education, and has been an early childhood educator for the last 12 years. She loves buying clothes for her children but it gets so expensive, she found thredUP and was instantly addicted. Jamie joined the thredUP customer service team for a new adventure. It is the perfect way for her to combine her love for children, children's clothes, and assisting others. She enjoys spending time in the beauty that is Montana, and as much time as possible with her family.
Office & Payroll Manager
While Jenny's job title is Office Manager & Payroll Manager, she wears more hats at thredUP that one could count. In addition to making sure everyone gets paid on time and has health insurance, Jenny doesn't let anyone's birthday go unrecognized, manages all office events, knows the best spots for catered lunches and happy hours, and generally keeps the startup team in line (dishes in the dishwasher!). Jenny began her thredUP career as an intern and has since become an essential part of the team. The Mesquite, Texas native has a cat named Honey Badger and a dog named Coco.
Marketing Web Developer
Ira graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2012 with a B.A. in Communication and Psychology and, having developed an interest in programming, decided to pursue a career in the tech industry. After attending a development bootcamp in San Francisco, Ira is now thrilled to be a member of the engineering team at thredUP, and so grateful to be surrounded by some of the best in the business.
Syed joined ThredUP after graduating from DePauw University, Indiana, with a BA in Economics, and Computer Science. Originally from Lahore, Pakistan, he came to San Francisco curious to see what all this startup jazz was about, and hasn't left since. When not coding away, Syed enjoys playing his guitar, and destroying people at racquetball.
Senior Director, Acquisition Marketing
Wolfgang is responsible for thredUP's new customer growth across all web and mobile platforms. He's passionate about creating customer-centric marketing strategies with proven return on investment by combining best-in-class brand, eCommerce and traditional direct marketing tactics. Wolfgang began his career at the global apparel company Lands' End, where he spent seven years managing all digital customer acquisition efforts. He then relocated to sunny California for the Director of Marketing role at Art.com, where he launched the company's first integrated national brand campaign and led social media, digital advertising, analytics and product conversion initiatives.
Charles started off as an actor for a few years in Los Angeles with a BA in Drama from the University of California Irvine. He then found his new passion in programming and obtained his MS in Computer Science from California State University Fullerton. Charles enjoys tackling new challenges, being a geek, and plays a darn good cylon at Battlestar Galactica the board game.
Karen is an avid supporter of the initiative thredUP is driving in the re-commerce space. Prior to joining the team, she worked at Yahoo and Zynga in their finance divisions supporting marketing, global operations and game studios. Currently, she works closely with the design and engineering teams to create great experiences across web and mobile for all thredUP users. Karen holds a B.S. from UCLA in Cognitive Science with a Specialization in Computing and a minor in Accounting.
Kerrie began her career in marketing, when an interest in brand design sparked her passion for designing and building websites. Thanks to some encouragement from her brother to attend a Development Bootcamp, Kerrie learned the coding ropes quickly. Hired on as an intern at thredUP, the engineering team immediately recognized her talent and dedication and signed her up full-time. Her favorite part of the job? Kerrie loves the Dev Team culture at thredUP and being able to learn and create new things on a daily basis.
