The Memorial Day Weekend Style Handbook

share this:

Memorial Day weekend is all about spending time with family and friends, but let’s not forget about the memorable photo ops. 😉 Whatever you’ll be doing this Memorial Day weekend, there’s an outfit for that! Between backyard BBQs and trips to the lake, your weekender plan doesn’t leave much room for figuring out what to wear. Styling is hard as it is from day to day, so planning a long weekend’s worth of outfits may be more trouble than its worth.

Take a page from our little red, white, and blue book and make sure you have these essential outfits to wear for any type of Memorial Day weekend event. No matter what you end up doing, you’ll definitely be looking fly in all the family photos! So, what are you packing for?

Picnics at the Park

Memorial Day weekend also marks the beginning of summer, that means yummy picnic spreads and mouthwatering cookouts with family and friends! Prepare for those cooler summer nights by wearing a cardigan over a cute summer dress, and top the whole outfit off with a comfy pair of flats (you’re going to be on your feet all day after all).

— Add more shape and definition to looser silhouettes like shift dresses or maxis by tying your jacket or cardigan around your waist.

— Feeling floral? Match a floral dress, jumpsuit or romper with printed cork wedges for a cute spring-into-summer look. Wedges are great for park outings since they don’t sink into the grass like heels.

The Beach

A quick upgrade to any beach-faring outfit starts with a colorful bikini and matching sandals but you can do so much more!

Slim down your beach tote by taking clothes that aren’t hard to change into or pack. Shorts and a breezy cover-up (we’re big fans of crochet) are great to throw over a swimsuit for those impromptu trips to the boardwalk, and a slim pair of sandals can be slipped into a carryall in seconds!

— Worried about coverage? You can show a little more skin through a high-leg or backless one-piece, or balance a bikini top with high-waisted bottoms.

— Catch everyone’s eye in a matching set and frame it with a darker colored cover-up. Pull the whole look together with a little jewelry (less is more in this case).

A Chill Hike

Memorial Day events can get pretty crowded. For those who want a bit of peace and quiet, take a hike! Whether it’s a chill stroll with family or a 5-hour trek, walk light in a sturdy pair of sneakers (or boots), a relaxed T-shirt, and sporty leggings. Also, don’t forget to bring your light track jacket!

– A simple outfit gets the job done, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a little fun styling it up! Rock bright colors in your outfit and match elements with your sneakers for a more put-together outfit.

– Cut-out leggings offer a playful peep of skin, which can be played up with an equally strappy tank top, or down with a relaxed T-shirt.

That was easy! We covered everything you’ll definitely need for the coming long weekend. Of course, building a new Memorial Day outfit can get pretty expensive. With up to 90% off at thredUP, you can snag a fresh outfit for way less than you would spend on traditional retail.
