Wear-a-Blazer Wednesday: Best Types of Blazers for Boss-Ladies

share this:

Have you heard of Wear-a-Blazer Wednesday? Well, we just made it up. Last week, our VP of creative Judee put a note on all our calendars to wear a blazer. So, we did. Blazers are a powerful piece of clothing that can pull an outfit together in an instant. Which means, you can technically dial down the rest of your look and still feel confident and ready to slay the day. Here are some of our favorite types of women’s blazers as seen on thredUP’s stylish staffers.

Jewel-Tone Hues

Angela, design master. Vintage blazer.

“Blazers make me feel like a badass boss lady. This one even has shoulder pads, which helps give the oversized blazer look some structure. I styled it with cuffed sleeves and paired it with a graphic tee and some fun pins on the lapel, so I don’t look too strictly business.”

Tuxedo Twist

Brenda, community pro. Vintage wool blazer.

“I rarely wear blazers with anything other than jeans! When it starts to get cold, I’ll add a hoodie underneath or I’ll wear the blazer over my distressed denim jacket and I’ll button the jean jacket all the way up to my neck so it looks like a shirt.

J. Crew is my favorite brand for fitted blazers and for really cool blazers I like Acne Studios. Both brands can be expensive—especially Acne—so I never buy my blazers new. Always secondhand!”

Cropped Blazers

Melissa, production powerhouse. XOXO blazer.

“I love taking a casual comfy outfit like jeans and a plain white tee and dressing it up with a classic blazer and some booties with a heel. Simple and stylish, this combo takes me from 9-5 and beyond. Plus, scrunching up the sleeves of a blazer just makes you look and feel cool.”

Tweed Blazers

Hillary, creative champ. Apostrophe blazer scored at thredUP

“It’s a favorite because it’s a bit more avant garde than the classic blazer. The neutral color and texture makes it easy to pair with other items in my closet, and its loose, but structural shape makes it easy to move around in without feeling restricted.”

Feminine Blazers

Sarah Olson, product star. Truth and Pride blazer.

“This blazer is one of my favorites because I’m a millennial and we ❤️ pink! I love the masculine-feminine play of a classic silhouette in a pretty light blush hue. It’s the perfect piece to dress up jeans and a tee or to layer over a floral maxi dress.”

Embellished Blazers

Judee, our actual boss lady. Zara blazer.

“This blazer has been in my closet for the last four years. It’s one of my favorite ones because it’s cropped and lightweight. The pattern detail adds a bit of interest to an all-black ensemble.”

Long Blazers

Jess, editorial guru. Oak + Fort blazer.

“You can’t go wrong with a black blazer. I love this one from Oak + Fort because it has big pockets and is a bit longer than your typical blazer. You can wear it as workwear or style it like a light jacket during shoulder seasons.”

It’s blazer week at thredUP and we’re celebrating hard. Tell us about your favorite blazers! Why you love them, how you style them, and what brands you turn to.
