3 Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas That Will Make You Give Up Sweats (For Now)

share this:

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and we’re all looking for the perfect outfit to wear (around the living room). With fewer things to dress up for these days, putting on a festive outfit is at the top of our to-do list. If you’re still looking for outfit inspo, you’re in luck. We’ve asked three of our very own thredUP ambassadors to share what they’re wearing this year and what they’re doing to celebrate. Read on to see how Kimmie, Sam, and Dee are styling their thrifted gems for Thanksgiving.

What are your Thanksgiving plans? Any fun family traditions?
Every year, my family hosts a Thanksgiving dinner. It’s my dad’s favorite holiday and he’ll plan the dinner menu for weeks. My dad’s birthday falls within that week as well. It makes this time of year very special for me.

Are you having a sustainable Thanksgiving?
We do our very best as a family to be sustainable. We use the same holiday decorations every year, which are all hand-me-downs—vintage, secondhand, and filled with memories.

What are you planning on wearing?
I always wear one statement piece during a holiday dinner. This Thanksgiving, it’ll be a pair of knee-high snakeskin boots. I’m going to be styling it with a vintage black slip dress, a hand-me-down from my mom. And a cropped sweater that I thrifted from a local consignment boutique.

Why do you think #secondhandfirst?
I love the idea of passing things along and how each item has a story to tell. I can pass on my clothes and jewelry and tell a story about how they’re special to me. #secondhandfirst is just a reminder to myself—why I do what I do.

This may sound super eccentric, but I am a very very picky shopper. I have so many Saved Searches on my thredUP app. It saves me time when I’m browsing for items that fit my aesthetic. My hack is to shop and save pieces for weeks. And then at the end of the month, I buy in bundles to save on shipping and help the environment!

What was your most memorable thrifty find?
I have to say my very first thrifted item. A new-with-tags Free People slip dress I found at my local thrift store. I had only ever dreamed of owning a Free People dress until then.

What are you looking forward to wearing most for fall/winter?
I live in Atlanta, so as much as I’d love to be wearing boots and sweaters, I just can’t with this warm weather. All I want is to wear an oversize knit sweater with some heeled boots.

Sometimes shopping basics isn’t a bad thing. Everyone always hopes to find a huge statement piece, but sometimes you need to stick with what you already know and love: the basics.

What are you planning on gifting this season?
My goal for this year is to do more research on sustainable and vegan gifts. Preferably local. Honestly, I haven’t even started Christmas shopping yet. I’m not the only last minute shopper, right?

What are your Thanksgiving plans? Any fun family traditions?
My Thanksgiving this year will be very low-key. I hope to have a slow morning that involves lots of coffee and video chatting with friends and family. Later in the afternoon, my boyfriend and I will take turns cooking different dishes in our tiny kitchen. I’m excited to eat delicious food and have lots of leftovers. I plan to end the night by watching some of my favorite holiday movies.

Are you having a sustainable Thanksgiving?
Yes! Our entire Thanksgiving dinner will be vegan. I don’t strictly eat vegan, but my boyfriend does so that’s how we cook at home. It’s fun to get creative with dishes and there are so many great vegan options out there.

What are you planning on wearing?
I love wearing an outfit that’s comfortable but also makes a statement! I’m pairing this soft sweater with a bold plaid skirt and classic black accessories. I love the color combination and plaid always makes me think of the holiday season. I’m also proud to say that everything (besides my purse) in my outfit is thrifted!

Why do you think #secondhandfirst?
Secondhand clothing is so exciting to me! I never know what I will find and that gives me a thrill. I love everything about it from the hunt for the perfect item to the low price tag.

My best thredUP shopping hack is to check the site often! Items are constantly being updated
and sometimes pieces go fast, so I like to do a quick scan once a day. Don’t forget to add items to your favorites list!

What was your most memorable thrifty find?
My most treasured thrifted item is a cream-colored floral print dress that I found many years
ago. It’s the perfect length and the neutral color makes it such a versatile piece.

What are you looking forward to wearing most for fall/winter?
I have been really into wearing statement outerwear with dresses and sneakers. I think it’s such a fun and fresh look.

Keep a list of items you are wanting to add to your wardrobe. This helps keep you focused while shopping and can curb any impulse buys.

What are you planning on gifting this season?
I’m gifting a lot of items that are perfect for staying cozy at home including socks, fancy hot
chocolate, and my favorite books.

What are your Thanksgiving plans? Any fun family traditions?
Traditionally, we cook and visit other family members and friends, but this year things will be a little different. I plan on spending Thanksgiving with my immediate family this year. It will be an intimate one.

What are you planning on wearing?
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays and I’m always dressed up on this day—blame it on the fashionista in me! This year, I’m opting for a fun floral flowy midi dress. I’ll pair it with an orange silk top for contrast and layer it with a dark green blazer, which complements the dress and top. I’ll accessorize with a chunky gold chain-link necklace and belt. I’ll finish off the look with comfy white sneakers and a Fendi bag. And of course, keep it safe with a matching mask. I love the juxtaposition wearing a of flowy dress with sneakers. Stylish, sporty chic, and definitely comfortable. My dress, top, blazer, and necklace are all from thredUP!

Why do you think #secondhandfirst?
I grew up wearing primarily secondhand clothing so it’s a lifestyle for me. I don’t think anyone should have to break the bank to look stylish! I’m big on sustainable living and it works with my styling options too. I love unique one-of-a-kind pieces, and want to promote eco-friendly living. Wearing secondhand clothing helps protect our planet from landfills and cuts down the environmental cost of fast fashion.

Filtering by Colors, Designer, In Someone’s Cart, etc. There are so many hidden gems all over the site, you just have to streamline your search. I also favorite items frequently and like sorting items from lowest to highest.

What was your most memorable thrifty find?
A gorgeous blue suit.

What are you looking forward to wearing most for fall/winter?
Catch me in anything oversized. I love wearing loungewear sets, elevated or toned down with chunky boots or kicks. I also wear lots of menswear, free flowing dresses, and statement accessories.

Vintage or thrifted blazers and suits are my all time favorite staple. They’re always in style, and I find the best ones at secondhand shops. I tend to get a complete outfit from a particular designer by searching for the designer on thredUP. I’ll try to find the matching pants to a blazer or suit and vice versa . Then it also shows the other great items from this particular designer.

What are you planning on gifting this season?
Something memorable. I’m thinking a watch or piece of jewelry!
