What happens when six comedians, two creative directors, and four marketers enter a room? Magic happens. When we teamed up with Funworks (an unconventional San Francisco ad agency) to develop our latest campaign we knew it was going to be a unique experience. We had heard about their legendary brainstorming sessions and seen their innovative work, but we didn’t realize just how fun (duh) and enlightening the whole process would turn out to be.
“With Funworks, you brainstorm with a skilled group of creative thinkers and improv comedians that know how to make everybody laugh while challenging your thinking. Suddenly, everyone is having fun while engaging in exercises that push you to think about thredUP’s business from different angles. This approach allowed us to unearth some really interesting truths about the role thredUP strives to play in our customer’s lives,” says Hillary Barber, thredUP’s marketing campaign lead.
We’re super proud of how this campaign turned out. The tagline is Splurge Responsibly. (Yes, it’s a play on Drink Responsibly, something else we enjoy doing when we’re not working or shopping.) It taps into a human truth that we can all relate to. The internal battle between the emotional and the rational as you justify that fateful decision to…checkout.
