Editor Spotlight: Angelica Dunn
With thredUP’s fashion database clocking more than 250,000 items and counting, it takes a talented eye to select only the best for our Editor’s Picks section. That’s why we’re grateful to have the fashionable Angelica Dunn, Merchandising Manager, working behind the scenes. An Academy of Art University grad with a degree in Fashion Merchandising, Angelica worked for the likes of Juicy Couture, True Religion, and Sunglass Hut before joining the thredUP team as our resident style maven.
“I always felt pressured, studying fashion and being in retail, to dress the part,” says Angelica. “That was difficult to pull off while staying on a budget.” Since joining thredUP, “my perception of consignment and shopping used has completely changed…it’s such an easy and budget-healthy shopping environment. It’s the first company I’ve worked for where I feel like I completely fit, both from a customer point of view and as an employee.”
Angelica, who describes her style as a combination of bohemian, edgy, and preppy, is all about what she calls “a healthy mix” of designer and everyday brands. Her fashion philosophy: invest in great shoes and bags that will stand the test of time, then use more affordable pieces from thredUP to fill out her wardrobe.
To show off her style, Angelica rounded up some of her favorite pieces from thredUP, alongside the shoes and bags she thinks are well worth an investment. “With the money I save using thredUP, I don’t feel guilty investing in a piece that’s a little pricier and that I know will still be stylish down the line,” she says.
Here’s a few ways Angelica would style her capsule wardrobe:
Outfit #1: For a Saturday out with friends, Angelica likes the combo of this patterned Ya Ya Blouse and these 7 For All Mankind jeans, both from thredUP. Paired with her favorite Harrow booties from Rag & Bone and her trusty cross-body Rebecca Minkoff mini M.A.C. bag, the look speaks to the mixture of edgy and bohemian that Angelica craves. “This outfit has some soft lines from the blouse, but the leather boots and the hardware on the bag give it a bit of structure as well,” she says. “It’s more dressed-up than jeans and a T-shirt, but still comfortable enough for just hanging out in the park.”
Outfit #2: A day at the thredUP office takes Angelica from meetings to styling sessions, so she tries to aim for looks that are “comfortable but still professional,” she says. A basic white tee from the Gap is a comfy basic, especially tucked into a classic tweed skirt from Tory Burch. Her favorite Classic nude ballet flats from Sam Edelman “make it easy to stay on my feet all day,” she says, while her Alexander Wang Marion bag adds ladylike flair with its rose-gold accents. On a strict shoe and bag budget? “The Harrow booties and M.A.C. bag would look equally great with this outfit, and give it a little more edge,” she adds.
Outfit #3: For date night, Angelica likes to get glam, and this red Sweet Rain dress offers a perfect mix of demure and racy with its timeless high-necked silhouette and flirty lower-back cutout. “It’s an old-school look, but the silhouette and color make it modern,” Angelica says. A leopard-print Claire Vivier foldover clutch adds to the fun vintage feel, as do a pair of elegant (and affordable!) black pointy-toe flats from Zara.
From the picks above, it’s no surprise that Angelica is a handbag maven, and she’s more than a little excited for thredUP to launch handbags next month. “Bags are my weakness, and my bank account agrees,” she laughs. “It’ll be nice to be able to branch out and try some new styles that would normally be out of my price range at retail.”
