Employee Spotlight: Find Out Why Warehouse Supervisor Paige Wilson is Thrift Obsessed
Welcome to Employee Spotlight, a thrEDIT original series featuring real-life thredUP employees. Paige Wilson is the acting inbound supervisor at our original distribution center in San Leandro, CA. Here, she shares how much of her wardrobe is thrifted (hint: it’s the highest percentage we’ve seen for a thredUP staffer!), plus what she’s coveting for summer.
P.S. We’ve hidden a chance to win $100 to shop somewhere in this post! Tag. You’re it!
Tell us what you do at thredUP.
I manage the operations of the warehouse and team, making sure all of our customers’ bags and items are successfully processed throughout the warehouse.
How would you describe thredUP in 5 words or less:
Affordable, stylish, convenient, fun, and refreshing.
What’s your top secret tip to shopping on thredUP?
Well it wouldn’t be top secret but, I can let you in on few helpful tips: FILTERS. Know what brands you like and what works best for you. Go on the site daily, yeah I know it seems like such a chore, but it’s not. I hop on the app when I’m waiting somewhere, even when I’m shopping in another retailer, because I know more than likely I’ll find exactly what I’m looking for on thredUP at a much better price.
What’s your top secret tip to cleaning out your closet?
I feel like I clean out my closet just like any woman with a serious shopping habit; by season, of course. The thing about Bay Area weather is we can use anything all season long, which can make it hard to store or sell things when a “new season” approaches.
How would you describe your style?
My style is really mood-based. I love color, and I’m big on a great high-waisted jean. It can be skinny, wide leg, mom jeans, I love em’ all!! I bounce from a vintage look to modern urban chic. Patterns, color, sneakers, high heels (the higher the heel, the closer to God..is what I say).
What percentage of your wardrobe is thrifted?
My wardrobe is 96% thrift! I’ve been thrifting since high school (so many moons ago). I’ve always shopped secondhand, I guess it’s something that I’ve always been comfortable with since childhood, getting clothes from older cousins and family; vintage items from grandparents, those items always have meaning. There’s nothing like going to a secondhand store and seeing something you saw in a regular retail store for a better price, and thinking, “It’s finally mine.”
Where do get your coffee?
My coffee must come from Peets!! Or my local neighborhood cafe (shop local).
Best life hack:
Live your truth! Be you boo!
What was the best deal you scored on thredUP?
I got some great Marc by Marc Jacobs white platform wedge booties! They were BOMB!
Best thrifty living tip:
Shop for what you need not want…no really, just for what you need and you don’t need everything lol.
Tell us what you love about the selling experience/Cleaning Out at thredUP.
I love the fact that I know thredUP takes all seasons. The convenience of putting my items into that cute large bag and sending it in is simple and easy, on top of the communication with thredUP’s team on letting me know my bag is being processed and the items that were sold, just makes you feel good, and the credit is even better.
What styles are you looking forward to wearing most for spring?
The styles I’m looking forward to this summer are always cute Levi’s cut-offs, flowy summer dresses, tops with open back details, and denim EVERYTHING.
What do you keep buying over and over?
The one thing I keep buying over and over, black jeans…I just can’t get enough. I’m on this “bum ripped” style hype right now, I love them.
