share this:

Birthdays are the best – full of cake, presents, and lots of love from friends and family. America’s birthday?? Even better! The Fourth of July is a great chance to dress up in patriotic outfits with summer prints, eat tons of hot dogs, and mayyyybe steal away to shop for items from our curated selection of summer weekend styles. Just saying.

If you’re looking to shake things up and make the most of this day-off birthday celebration, read on for a few our favorite Fourth ideas that won’t break the bank. And hey, you might just make some memories that last a lifetime.

Get Crafty

Red, white, and blue all over! @etst

When we think of Fourth of July events, we tend to think of big events like parades and firework shows. Wanna keep it low-key? Crafting is a great way to celebrate the Fourth with your fam. Why not craft cute decorations that can be reused year after year? We love this cute Mason Jar DIY from Liz Marie Blog. bf788f2ab137ae684e7ed697df8dc1f8

Also, try your hand at tie-dyeing old white t-shirts with red and blue fabric dye for unique, patriotic outfits.  Your kids will want to rock their cool tees all summer.

Last but not last, we love the idea of using leftover fabric scraps and rags to make festive summer wreaths with this tutorial.

Cook Up A Storm

Who says Fourth food has to be unhealthy? @katheats

It wouldn’t be a holiday without a hefty focus on food! Whether you’re headed to a neighborhood potluck or block party, or are opting for a casual family cookout, preparing summer snacks and grilling up healthy entrées is always a good opportunity to involve the whole family.

Get your kids to be little helpers by giving them simple and delicious culinary tasks. We love the idea of decorating a yummy sheet cake like the American flag with cream cheese frosting and plenty of fresh blueberries and strawberries. Follow this easy recipe for a quick how-to.

Stay Active!

No one is too young to participate in a little touch football! @amberfillerup

There’s nothing like a little bit of friendly competition to round out Independence Day festivals!

Bring out everyone’s feisty, energetic side with water balloon battles, backyard games of cornhole, touch football, and some casual frisbee tossing. Ate one more burger than you planned on? Enjoyed a few extra beers? Staying active is always a good complement to treating yourself.

Got bad weather? Sing alongs and board games are always a classic. Check out this list of classic Fourth sing along songs like Born in the USA and American Pie for the most patriotic karaoke sesh of the summer.

Happy Fourth! What are some of your favorite summer day-off activities? Tell us in the comments!
