Nail the Fall Outfit Formula that’s Cozy AND Cute!

share this:

What do we love about fall? EVERYTHING. The crunch of leaves under an ankle bootie, the snug warmth of a woolen scarf, and who could leave out the ultimate coziness of a sweater? Why, it wouldn’t be fall without an relaxed fall sweater, a soft cardigan, or a neatly knitted pullover.

Of course, when it comes to the layering season, there’s always a chance your fall outfit might be more frumpy than fabulous (we’re looking at YOU, oversized sweaters). That’s why we’ve asked Hannah Palamara of My Sweet Genevieve to show us how to style this season’s fall hero.

Cozy AND cute? It’s Possible.

Mother of two sweet girls, Hannah helps young mothers look and feel their best with style tips, recipes, and life hacks. Her classic style is perfect for building easy fall outfits that are approachable, practical (she’s a busy mama!), and stylish.

A graduate of Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), Hannah knows a great deal when she sees one, and loves to shop designer items on thredUP. What’s her favorite find? Why, the Sam Edelman over-the-knee boots she’s rocking in her fall outfit!

Hannah breaks down the ultimate fall outfit into 4 simple essentials. Read on to find out how to copy her sweater outfit formula.

 1. Sweater

It goes without saying, no fall outfit would be complete without a cozy sweater. For her outfit, Hannah opted for an open knit design. Here’s how she styled it…

HANNAH’S TIP: “I love mixing textures, especially in the fall when you can start to layer and cozy up. So I decided to pair this open-knitted sweater with a suede pencil skirt for a  fun texture play.”

2. Pencil Skirt

Looking for a high-waisted style that will guarantee a snug fit around the waist? Opt for styles that are designed with darts (seams that create a tapered fit).

HANNAH’S TIP: “I always front-tuck my tops when I’m wearing any type of high-waisted bottom to help create waist-definition.”

3. Boots

Cold-weather dressing can start looking pretty heavy when you start layering. Give your outfits a boost with leg-lengthening, over-the-knee boots.

HANNAH’S TIP: I chose to pair my outfit with OTK Sam Edelman boots because they hug my legs and show off their shape while keeping them covered and warm. I love the look of a pair of tall boots and a shorter skirt—it feels flirty and fun!”

4. Handbags

Sweaters can be a pretty casual affair, so this is where classic accessories can really elevate your look.

HANNAH’S TIP: “Glam up an everyday look with a classic quilted bag. The gold detail adds a sophisticated element, which can be matched with other gold jewelry for a standout effect!”

1… 2… 3… and done! We hope you liked this cute and cozy outfit as much as we did. What are your favorite hacks for styling UP sweaters? Let us know below!
