How to Wear a Blazer 5 Ways

share this:

You know how you always style the same pieces together over and over and over again? That blazer with those pants. That blouse with those jeans. We know we do. It’s part morning madness and part style rut. So, we turned to our resident Style Challenge guru Hilary Pearson to see if she could take one of her favorite blazers and wear it five different ways. She wore one shift dress for an entire week last month, so we knew she was up to the task. Here, she takes one blazer on a week-long journey, from the office to date night to the dance floor.

I’ve always been fond of blazers. They’re an easy addition to any outfit if you want to level-up your look. If you’re not familiar with blazers or how to style them, they can seem a bit stuffy, but certain styles lend themselves to a level of versatility many other articles of clothing simply cannot rival.

This ATM Collection blazer is a recent addition to my closet. I found it new with tags for $40 at thredUP. It was originally $495! Its structure gives it a very polished feel, but the linen material makes it easy to transition into more casual outfits. The off-white color is neutral, but the subtle pinstripe gives it a bit of character. I love it!

Weekend Fun: Casual Blazer Outfit

Zara knit top. H&M Conscious Collection Pants. White Vans.

This is my “I have to run errands all morning, but I’m meeting a friend for a lunch so I can’t just roll out of bed and chill in athleisure all day” weekend look. Easy, buttoned-up, and above all, comfortable. 10/10 would wear again.

Dance Party: Blazer Over a Dress

Vintage Metallic Dress. H&M suede heels.

Mixing shapes and textures is one of my favorite things to do when I’m putting outfits together. I love the contrast of the light, flowy metallic dress with the structured blazer. It’s not too fussy, but still elevated enough to suit any fancy party plans I might conjure up over the weekend.

Office Presentation: Blazer Suit

Vintage White Trousers. Asos frayed top. Sam Edelman booties.

My closet is comprised primarily of black, grey, and denim, so you might be surprised to know how much I actually love a good head-to-toe white outfit moment. If it weren’t for my clumsiness, I would wear all white, all day, everyday.

Date Night: Blazer with Party Skirt

Bagatelle leather skirt. Asos frayed top. Schutz stilettos.

I’ve had this leather skirt for a while now, but I could never figure out what to wear with it. Enter ATM Collection blazer and black Schutz pumps. Now I’m ready for date night…. and praying said date doesn’t involve lots of walking, because these shoes definitely weren’t made for any of that.

Creative Brainstorm: Blazer with Jeans

Vintage graphic tee. Mother Denim black jeans. Steve Madden metallic block heels.

Working in a creative environment has many perks. One of the best, in my opinion, is the flexibility available to those it employs with regard to their work attire. I love being able to pair my favorite vintage items, like this old motorcycle rally t-shirt, with modern classics like this blazer.
