Blue is So You: Find Out Why It’s Your Favorite Color

Got the blues? We do! It’s the final hue in our color series and we had to save the best for last. Blue is unsurprisingly the color that most of you got on our color personality quiz. But you’re not alone. It’s also the color people say they feel most comfortable in as well as the color most people name as their favorite. In 2000 the Crayola company found that blue was the most popular of all its colored crayons in the US.

What does it all mean? Why blue? Find out below, pick up some style pro tips, and shop blue clothes and blue outfits at up to 90% off.

BLUE IS THE COLOR OF DENIM

It would be impossible to overstate the importance of denim in our lives. Denim on denim? Even better. To make it work, avoid the matchy-matchy and pair different washes of varying weights together. Keep the rest of your outfit simple. A white tee, a cool chambray. Cute as Justin and Britney are, that memorable red-carpet look should stay where it belongs—in 2001.

BLUE HAS A SERENE, CALMING EFFECT

When you wear blue, you’re broadcasting independence, creativity, positivity, and peace. Use blue to show loyalty and to cool stressful situations. The opposite of red, blue can lower your pulse rate and body temperature, helping you to relax and lower your anxiety levels.

ROYAL BLUE IS WELL, ROYAL

A bolder, brighter and more empowering shade of blue is royal. Wear it head-to-toe à la Kate Middleton or use it as a vibrant pop. Royal blue is the perfect accent hue for fall since it mixes beautifully into a wardrobe full of black, grays, and camel. Try a cobalt handbag or bright satin heels.

BLUE SHOWS UP IN OUR EVERYDAY

“Blue is not only the most popular color on the web today, it is also the most popular color on the spectrum internationally. Long associated with the serenity of a clear blue sky, and the cleansing waters of tranquil seas, the human mind embraces the concept of blue as constant, translating it into a symbolic message of dependability and loyalty.” – Pantone Vice President Laurie Pressman

BLUE IS NEUTRAL BUT IT’S STILL A COLOR

One of the personality traits of people who skew blue is practicality. When faced with an item that comes in black, gray, or blue, many of us will choose the blue because it’s neutral enough to pair with anything but it still has the power of being a color and thus feels slightly daring.
