Look For Less: Reese Witherspoon’s Preppy Chic

share this:

Reese WitherspoonIt’s hard not to love Reese Witherspoon. The spunky Southerner has been charming audiences onscreen for more than a decade, and in that time, she’s sported some fabulous looks (and can certainly work a red carpet). But in her day-to-day life, Witherspoon earns our admiration for always looking polished and pretty, yet very much comfortable– especially given that she has three kids, one of whom is still a toddler. Here’s how to copy her stylish ensemble, with its preppy clean lines and elements of classic French chic, without breaking the bank.

The top: The three-quarter-sleeve, scoop-necked black top is a universally flattering style staple, perfect with jeans, skirts, and even shorts. Reese chose one with a trendy peplum waist, but for a more timeless look, the straight waist on this super-soft silk and cashmere BCBG Max Azria sweater works equally well.
The jeans: A classic dark skinny jean is a wardrobe must-have, and J Brand has long been the denim of choice for stars and non-stars alike– with a price to match. For $35, these dark-wash J Brand jeans are a score; they’ll work with all kinds of outfits, and are far more wallet-friendly than a fresh pair from a fancy boutique.
The shoes: A black tee and jeans can get boring, which is why Reese kicked up her outfit a notch with the addition of some fun leopard heels. These adorable Seychelles pumps, with their slight vintage vibe, are a worthy alternative at a much lower price point.
The accessories: While thredUP doesn’t sell most accessories as of yet (stay tuned!), there are definitely some affordable alternatives to complete the look on the Web. Reese’s classic Ray-Ban Wayfarers are an investment piece, but cheaper knockoffs are available by the bushel on AmazonThis delicate gold disc is similar to the one adorning her neck (and only $36 on Etsy). And to tide you over until handbags arrive on thredUP, this cool black leather BCBGeneration Hannah satchel  is an affordable alternative to Reese’s pricey Hermes tote. All of these pieces are simple and versatile, so they’re easy to wear again– they’ll add a touch of refinement to any outfit.
