One word today: TGIF! We couldn’t be more excited for a few days off to enjoy the summer weather. Hopefully you have some enjoyable weekend plans lined up, or better yet, have no plans at all. In your downtime, just in case you’re in the perusing mood, feel free to give these articles a glance.

Ooooh food fads, how you intrigue us. Quinoa, kale, avocado toast – you name it. But food fads date back further than just the green-smoothie-craze. Turns out, Eggs Benedict was a fad too! Here’s a list of the each food obsession from the past 40 years. [Good Housekeeping]

Speaking of food fads, here is avocado toast taken to the next level: avocado buns. Also, the creator of this ingenious idea has a background in interior design, so the final product is b-e-a-utiful. Why yes, we would like consume an avocado bun, thank you very much. [Refinery29]

Time to geek out on a little animal science: there may or may not be a new whale species.  Phillip Morin of NOAA’s Southwest Fisheries Science Center in California put it well, “It’s just so exciting to think that in 2016 we’re still discovering things in our world—even mammals that are more than 20 feet long.”[Popular Science]

Monday evening a storm rolled into New York city, and produced quite the spectacle: a lightening bolt hitting the Empire State building, on camera no less. Apparently the building gets hit by lightening around 23 times per year so no need to worry, but the video of it is still really cool. [Gothamist]

Cool alert: the Austin-based chain-stitch embroidery collective Fort Lonesome is creating one-of-a-kind denim pieces at the Flatiron Madewell shop for the next few days. If you’re in the area and decide to make a purchase, Fort Lonesome will take your denim and decide how to customize and embellish it. Or you can just take a look at the awesome installation. And that’s a wrap, folks! Tweet at us or leave a comment if we forgot anything, we’re always in the mood to chat.
