STAFFER SPOTLIGHT: How Lindsey Shops thredUP Like A Professional Bargain Hunter
Welcome to Staffer Spotlight, a thrEDIT original series featuring real-life thredUP employees. This edition features Lindsey Goularte. As the Procurement Specialist, she’s responsible for purchasing everything each distribution center needs to function. From cameras to custom packaging, laptops to mannequins, she buys it all!
1. What was the first item you bought from thredUP?
My first purchase with thredUP was less than two weeks after my start date. I bought a pair of Aldo black leather, slingback, peep-toe, platform, 5″ stilettos. I am still in love with them a year later! $27.99 when they were originally $119.00 at full price is a complete steal. I was hooked immediately. Since I’ve been with the company (14 months), I’ve placed over 20 orders! I’m always finding amazing items that will play up my wardrobe.
2. What do you love about receiving a thredUP package?
It definitely has to be our packaging. It’s like Christmas with every order I receive! Our boxes, tissue, and stickers are super cute and everything is packaged so crisply. The care that my thredUP teammates take to ensure that each order is like a present each time is fantastic. I take pride in knowing that I myself, guarantee each distribution center is stocked with all the custom packaging they need to prepare the orders. When I see a blogger opening their new thredUP box, I know I helped make that moment special for them. The excitement of seeing my new or new-to-me item is pretty cool, too!
3. How do you shop on thredUP?
I use the Personal Shop feature. You can build your Personal Shops based on designers you like and your preferred sizes. Or if you buy for other people, you can have multiple Personal Shops. As someone who is fuller figured, I know the designers I like whose clothing fits my body the best. I love to look for things listed by designer.
I know sometimes it is hard to shop online exclusively, but when you know designers you like, more often than not, you won’t be disappointed. I’m a fan of Calvin Klein, Vince Camuto, Kate Spade, and Daniel Rainn. I’m always looking for Kate Spade handbags. In my opinion, these designers are classic choices and classic is always in fashion.
4. What are your favorite items to shop secondhand?
Lately my favorite purchases have been outerwear. Since items that are considered outerwear are only used when needed and not daily, they have a tendency to be in very good condition. I recently purchased a stunning burgundy wool coat, new with tags, for $24.99! A WOOL COAT! It was regularly $109.00. Mind blown! Not only does it fit me perfectly but you just can’t beat that deal anywhere. I cannot wait for colder weather so I can rock it! One of my favorite things is when people ask me where I got something and I get to tell them thredUP! I absolutely know this is going to happen with my new winter coat.
5. Why do you think #secondhandfirst?
I am a buyer for a living which means I save money all day, every day. I am always striving for amazing deals and I look for them wherever I can, not only for thredUP as their buyer, but personally for myself. Buying secondhand allows me to always save money and live responsibly. Seeing that I’ve saved hundreds of dollars on items I love makes me and my wallet beam with happiness. Also, there is nothing better than receiving a compliment on a beautiful item, whether it be clothing, shoes, or a new handbag, knowing that you didn’t pay full price for it. I know that I’m doing my part to be fiscally and environmentally responsible with every thredUP order I place.
Leave a comment with your favorite thredUP find, we’d love to hear! Stay tuned for more Staffer Spotlights.
