Welcome to Staffer Spotlight, a thrEDIT original series featuring real-life thredUP employees. This edition features Julia Kaplan. As Vice President of Product, Julia is  constantly scouring thredUP to improve and immerse herself in the product experience. Julia also happens to have a killer sense of style, and closet chock-full of designer goodies. Read on for her tips and tricks on how find the best secondhand designer steals from thredUP.

1. What is the first thing you ever bought from thredUP?

A pullover sweater from Splendid for $19.99. It was new with tags!

2. What’s your favorite thing about getting a thredUP order?

Getting the polka dot box by the door. Lots of my shopping is very impulse-driven. I push the “buy” button and almost immediately forget that I bought something. So, when I get the box two days later, it’s always a little bit of a surprise. It’s like unwrapping a present!

3. How do you shop on thredUP?

“My Sizes” are always on so that I don’t get distracted by items that won’t fit. I usually shop the designer section. It’s like treasure hunting every time.

4. What are your favorite kinds of things to buy secondhand?

I try to buy items that are not staples. The prices are low and so is the risk, so I shop secondhand for my more daring purchases. I’ll opt for items with big, fun prints or I’ll shop with a special occasion in mind.

5. Why do you think #secondhandfirst?

I have so many things in my closet that I don’t wear, even a few things with tags still attached. I know there are many other women in the same situation. Thinking #secondhandfirst to me means that I can save money and environment by exchanging clothing with others. It’s like having a bunch of girl friends with amazing closets that you can pick and choose from.
