Like most fashion-loving folks, our attention long ago expanded from the pages of glossy magazines onto the Web, where savvy style bloggers have given us all kinds of great wardrobe ideas. To help find the best stuff on thredUP, we’ve invited a few of them to browse the racks and give us their picks for outfit ideas.

Our first style expert is Kristen Philipkoski, who gained prominence on her personal blog, Stylenik, before becoming the editor of key fashion resource Racked SF. The boho beauty (who also happens to be a science expert) tours stores and interviews top designers for a living, sharing favorite finds like the most unique local jewelry stores and the best bikini purveyors for warm-weather getaways. She and her husband live with their adorable toddler daughter Frida in Pacifica, a relaxed beach town 20 minutes south of SF. Kristen describes her own style as “laid-back glamour,” and she’s a master of blending relaxed pieces and statement items for a look that suits her dual roles as journalist and mom.

On the job: Kristen’s first outfit has “a fun sailor vibe,” and its blend of casual underpinnings and put-together details is perfect for a day of running around town for interviews. It starts with three versatile basics: a comfy Michael Stars tee and a striped Club Monaco sweater, layered over a pair of Madewell wide-leg jeans. “I have a soft spot for both wide-leg jeans and Madewell, so I was very happy to find these in my size,” she says. An Egyptian-inspired necklace from one of her favorite local boutiques, Fiat Lux, keeps the look consistent with its pops of red and blue, while a gold leather Molly M wristlet with straw-like detailing does double duty: “It’s perfect as either a clutch for a night out or to tuck into a bigger bag during the day.” The finishing touch: a low-heeled pair of Giuseppe Zanotti pumps that keep Kristen comfortably on her feet all day. “I love an ankle strap,” she says. “These will go with absolutely everything.”

At home: Kristen is currently in the throes of an obsession with culottes. “I saw a friend wearing a great vintage pair recently, and now I’m in the market,” she says. “These Marc Jacobs pants are labeled as capris, but they look strikingly similar to the pair I fell for.” To add a little shape to the funky culottes, she sought a couple of pieces with serious structure: a safari-inspired Gap top (“A second-hand white top in mint condition is such a rare find”) and a pink Wilsons motorcycle jacket. “I’m not typically a big pink fan, but I’ve been loving the pastel outerwear trend this season.” A sleek heeled bootie provides a nice visual counterpoint to the culottes, and Kristen loves this cognac leather pair from Pour la Victoire, which just so happen to be on sale. To complete the outfit, she adds a pair of geometric earrings from another favorite local jeweler, No. 3 (“They’re made with porcupine quills!”), and a bag from SF-based designer Ilano, which she loves for their commitment to fair wages for artisans and all-natural dyes. (“Though it doesn’t hurt that their bags are so cute.”)

For Frida: Little Frida is a burgeoning fashionista in her own right, and her cute-but-comfy outfits inspire legions of admiring comments from her mom’s readership. Kristen delved into thredUP’s kids’ selection to pick a stylish pink-and-denim outfit that complements her own. “It’s always chilly where we live, near the ocean, so I like to pick versatile pieces that have fun colors but are still warm,” she says. That translates to an adorable miniature pair of denim culottes and a military-inspired pink Diesel dress/jacket that echo Kristen’s outfit, along with a fun green REI hat to keep Frida toasty. And though her daughter is getting bigger by the minute, Kristen can’t resist splurging on an all-time favorite shoe: “I just can’t get enough of her in pink high-top Converse,” she says.
