The Lazy Girl’s Guide To Dressing For The Holidays

share this:

If you’ve planned out just about everything about your holiday season except for what you’ll be wearing, look no further. Here at thredUP HQ, each month we pick a color to celebrate wearing, and curate amazing items in that color for super affordable prices. This month is, you guessed it, RED!

All December long, we’ve been celebrating this versatile, bold color. While it’s inherently festive, it’s also a classic that you can rock any time of year, anywhere. This holiday season, if you’ve been lazy about picking out festive looks, we cannot overestimate the power of red. That said, some people are understandably a bit intimidated by this statement color. Read on for our tips for working red into your wardrobe, as demonstrated by some of our favorite peeps on Instagram. (Want more Insta-inspo? Check out our gallery of #secondhandfirst style!)

1. A red sweater looks festive with patterned pants. Go for a pattern with some red in it to pick up on the tones of the sweater. Cute baby optional!

2. A red patterned skirt like this one from H&M works for day with a striped tee, blazer and a structured handbag, as demonstrated by Kayla from @pumpsandpouts. To take her skirt to evening, blank added a cute sweatshirt and a clutch.

3. Rachel of @rachelsayumiporter makes red look a little more effortless by rocking a looser-fitting dress originally from Haband!. The addition of an earthy necklace keeps the look grounded.

4. Christina of @talesfromthrthrift opted for a shirtdress with a not-too-sweet pattern. Shirtdresses provide a super fresh silhouette, and look amazing when paired with tights and ankle boots for chilly winter days.

@soniakareena chose a fit and flare dress with a more graphic pattern (in contrast to Christina’s more organic pattern). This dress is originally from Diane Von Furstenberg.

5. Two more red sweater looks we’re loving are courtesy of Janssen from Every Reading as well as @heyimbecky. If you’re feeling extra lazy for casual daytime holiday event, go for a red sweater and dark wash jeans.
