thredUP Launches “The Mismatched ‘Maid,” a Secondhand Dress Shop for Brides Who Get It
Today, we launched our first-ever bridesmaid shop, “The Mismatched ‘Maid,” created specifically for the Bridechilla who wants an effortlessly coordinated bridal party look for less. Bridesmaids now have access to mix-and-match dresses at up to 90% off traditional retail prices, that can be worn once, guilt-free.
“Unconventional bridesmaid dresses are a natural fit for thredUP, and our entrance is filling a long overdue gap in the market,” said Kathleen Weng, VP of Merchandising at thredUP. “Similar to maternity, which is our fastest-selling category, bridesmaid dresses are items that women can only wear for a limited time, or often just once. This shop is a direct response to overwhelming customer demand for a solution to the problem of overpriced bridesmaid dresses, allowing shoppers access to more affordable options for a special occasion.”
The thredUP Bridal Shop includes four distinct bridesmaid dress curations catering specifically to the eclectic bridal party, sorted by of-the-moment color and style combinations including blush, navy blue, floral, polka dot, and ruffles. Some of thredUP’s most sought-after brands are included in the shop, from BCBGMAXAZRIA to Diane von Furstenberg to J.Crew, with prices starting at just $10.
“The mismatched bridesmaid look is definitely trending right now, but it’s not always as effortless as it looks. We’re excited to take out some of that work with the new Mismatched ‘Maid shop,” said Lindsay Martinsen, brand style manager at thredUP. “Brides today, especially millennials, don’t want their bridesmaids to blend in. They are mindful of their bridesmaid’s budgets, and want them to feel comfortable in the silhouette and shade that suits their individual style. We think bridesmaids will be surprised to discover like-new designer dresses on thredUP at a fraction of department store prices to get that coveted mix-and-match look.”
A recent survey of thredUP customers shows that over 85% of women never re-wear their bridesmaid dresses, and over half considered their dresses “too expensive.” The survey also showed that over two-thirds of women spent $100 or more per dress on average.
The Mismatched ‘Maid is a smart choice that brings you one step closer to the bridal party of your dreams.
