It’s chilly outside but it’s not exactly cold enough for a huge coat, nor is it warm enough to go without an extra layer. What do you do? Throw on a scarf, of course!
From shawls to infinity scarves, long to short scarves, there are so many styles to wear and just as many ways to wear them. Here’s how to style your scarf in different looks whether it’s around your neck, tucked into your shirt, or as a shawl! We’ll show you step by step how to tie your scarf in five different ways to keep your fall and winter styling fresh and easy.
1. The Weave
This way of scarf styling runs a little bulky, but it’s great to tuck under large coats for an extra boost of toasty warmth. Here’s how to tie this scarf!
Step 1: Cast your scarf of choice on your shoulders, it should be resting behind the neck.
Step 2: Take one end of the scarf and throw it over the opposite shoulder to make one round around your neck.
Step 3: Tie the ends of your scarf into a knot by bringing one end under and over the other.
Step 4: Tighten and adjust as needed!
2. The Layered Knot
Perfect for adding dimension to your winter outfit. This scarf-tying method will give your look a cozy, layered effect.
Step 1: Unlike the Weave, you’ll be wearing the scarf from the front of the neck to back.
Step 2: Make one round around the neck so that the ends of the scarf are on opposite sides.
Step 3: Hold both ends and tie a knot.
Step 4: Tuck the shorter end of your scarf behind the longer side.
3. The Loop Tie
How do you tie a scarf into a shirt, vest, or coat? Look no further than this extra cozy and easy method, which has no tying involved. It’s perfect for more delicate materials like silk scarves or other gauzy styles, and it tucks right into any outerwear!
Step 1: Fold your scarf in half (essentially into a loop), with both ends in one hand.
Step 2: Throw it over your shoulder (behind your neck).
Step 3: Hold both ends in one hand, and the loop in the other.
Step 4: Pull both ends through the loop, and done!
4. The Tuck
When it comes to easy breezy winter styling, an effortlessly casual look is always in the cards. The Tuck has a relaxed air while being super comfy, it’ll definitely keep you warm and on trend.
Step 1: Just like the Layered Knot, start with the scarf wrapped from the front to back of your neck.
Step 2: Wrap it around once.
Step 3: Make adjustments as needed for how relaxed you’d like the loop to be.
Step 4: Take both ends and tuck them into the loop.
5. The Belted Shawl
This is our favorite one-and-done look. Wrap yourself in a scarf, and cinch it around the waist with a belt (the bigger the buckle, the bolder the statement, y’all). Simple, elegant, and undeniably chic. Pair with booties for a truly perfect fall statement.
