About the role:

thredUP is the world’s largest online thrift store, and we’re on a mission to keep clothing out of landfills and in closets, reducing fashion’s impact on the planet and our future. Our quest to inspire consumers to think secondhand first isn’t always easy, but it’s never boring. We need an incredible Community Strategist to help us do it.

Our Integrated Marketing team is seeking an experienced Community Strategist to drive meaningful interaction on our social channels, paid social, and relevant conversations across the web, growing our organic audience size and engagement, as well as our social graph (earned social media) in relevant online communities.

Day to day, you will be responsible for the entire comments section on every major social platform, both paid posts and organic. You’ll bridge the gap between customer service and brand, brilliantly educating users about thredUP and building brand love along the way. You’ll also lead proactive initiatives to strategically grow our community organically, making a positive and meaningful impact on brand preference, earned social media, and thredUP’s share of voice in the sustainable fashion community and beyond.

*thredUP is relocating to Oakland in Fall '19. This role will be expected to work in SF until then.


  • Managing our community. Replying to comments and mentions, clearing up inquiries across paid, owned, and earned social media including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube in a timely manner, with responses that demonstrate a mastery of tone, social media savvy, and excellent judgement.
  • Managing the pipeline of user generated content (UGC) from Instagram using internal tools and identifying and securing opportunities to leverage content where possible in the business (owned social, UGC gallery on site, email, etc.).
  • Proactively joining conversations and building relationships on organic earned social media and paid influencer media as needed/defined by the team (e.g. engaging regularly in convos on Instagram and Twitter regarding sustainable fashion, etc.).
  • Initiating and developing relationships with influencers and reporters through social media, email, and IRL events.
  • Delivering regular community insights that inform business decisions and product features.
  • Collaborating with Communications/PR team to amplify thought-leadership efforts
  • Working closely with the product, brand and customer service teams to develop high level customer facing positioning and messaging regarding new features and internal business decisions that affect customers.
  • Leveraging thrEDIT, our content hub, to build community through the comments section and by collaborating with the rest of the social team.


  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Full stop.
  • You pride yourself on your ability to adapt a brand’s tone to social copy seamlessly.
  • Self-starter who acts with conviction - able to think quickly on your feet and possess the confidence to make judgement calls or phone-a-friend as needed.
  • Passion for social media and the good it can do.
  • Interest in and passion for sustainability and resale a major plus.
  • 2+ years of marketing, editorial or customer service experience.
  • Knowledge of the online fashion space.
  • Experience working with social media for businesses.
  • Comfortable working cross functionally, strong interpersonal skills, you thrive while working in ambiguity.
