About the Role

We are seeking a strategic marketing leader to drive brand and performance impact for the world’s largest marketplace for secondhand women and kids apparel. The Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) will be an innovative leader with creative, analytical, and strategic acumen coupled with the strong business instincts necessary for leading thredUP’s marketing organization through the next phase of growth at thredUP. This is a unique opportunity to build upon our mission-driven consumer value proposition and amplify and scale our reach.

The CMO will be accountable for building and driving a high-performance, data-driven team to hit our revenue targets. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in driving both performance and brand marketing programs, ideally with an omni-channel perspective (by the end of 2019 thredUP will have over 100 retail locations). The CMO will play a critical role on thredUP’s leadership team and will report to thredUP’s President.

But, honestly, it’s way more than just that. The best candidates will be readers and thinkers and tinkerers who can react to emerging consumer signals and seize the moment in the service of thredUP’s mission. You trigger emotions that move people to action.

What You'll Do

  • Be responsible for the vision, strategy, budget and execution of all marketing initiatives
  • Optimize a growing brand and performance marketing budget across digital and traditional channels, ensuring the right media mix, attribution and efficacy
  • Oversee and inspire the creation of campaigns that tell powerful stories that lead to purchases, affinity, and awareness
  • Lead Growth, Brand, Creative, Comms and Partnership teams to ensure consistent and flawless execution of the thredUP brand using an omnichannel approach.
  • Drive the evolution of our vibrant and growing brand and execute programs that tell inspiring stories that drive purchase behavior and brand preference
  • Work across the organization, especially with product, engineering and data teams, to drive scale and efficiency with the smart application of technology 
  • Drive the vision for team growth and create an efficient organizational structure, providing leadership, inspiration and coaching to all teammates
  • Responsible for the continuous development of thredUP’s differentiated brand and voice to increase awareness, community, loyalty and relevance. 
  • Build strong relationships with all respective counterparts including Operations, Product, Engineering, Data Science and FP&A, and provide clear communication across the entire organization

The Requirements

  • 15+ years of senior marketing leadership experience, as head of marketing/CMO at a rapidly growing consumer brand with a focus on high growth.
  • You are a detail-oriented performance marketer and an insightful student of consumer behavior. You are creative (and would be described this way by people who know you), and you can turn your observations into stories that inspire action. 
  • You know how to drive short-term performance results and build long term brand affinity.  
  • Outstanding leadership and people management skills with the ability to successfully motivate and challenge a team of talented and creative people at all levels of the organization
  • Highly analytical; able to make data-driven decisions and establish effective metrics to approach marketing strategy and spend
  • Deep knowledge of attribution models and media mix marketing
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where continuous innovation is critical
