About the Role

Leading a team of 3 analysts, the Vice President of Finance will help drive decision-making around a complex revenue model. You will be responsible for thoughtful analysis & providing information to management that is timely, accurate, comprehensive, and enabling for well thought out decision making. In addition to the strategic components, the VP will be charged with coordinating the construction of financial plans and forecasts that align with company objectives.

The position offers exposure to all parts of the business and will significantly impact the company’s growth strategy. This is an outstanding opportunity for a finance executive with a proven track record of creative problem-solving and change management to join in a high-growth, mission-driven organization. You must be effective at partnering with executive business leaders and feel confident reporting to our CFO.

*thredUP is relocating to Oakland in Fall '19. This role will be expected to work in SF until then.


  • Lead quarterly/monthly financial forecast process and report out performance against financial goals.
  • Evaluate risk/return on investment alternatives.
  • Lead annual budget process and enforce spending (budgetary) controls.
  • Manage the construction and issuance of standard financial reports
  • Develop and maintain cash flow reporting and forecasting tools
  • Oversee development of financial models to guide management decision processes
  • Collaborate with the controller on closing process, accounting changes, and financial reporting
  • Ensure processes in place to control expenditures within approved budgets
  • Coordinate preparation of BOD presentations and financial presentations to external parties
  • Evaluate financing strategies including covenant and compliance requirements
  • Review contracts for financial commitments and compliance requirements
  • Lead a team of three analysts, setting work priorities, providing technical training, and preparing them for that next opportunity
  • Report to the CFO and serve as a business partner to the executive staff


  • 8-12 years as a finance director or higher for a >$100m public company
  • Retail and E-Commerce business experience
  • Familiar with process management, capacity utilization, labor efficiency and the impact on financial results
  • Led corporate level financial planning processes
  • Exceptional understanding of income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow relationship
  • Can translate complex accounting concepts within financial plans and forecasts
  • Demonstrated ability to grow young, inexperienced staff into high functioning team
  • Must be hands-on with very good spreadsheet proficiency and providing detailed team direction.
  • Evidence of successfully working directly with executive level as business partner
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Integrity always and managerial courage when required
