About the Role

We’re seeking an Email & Retention Marketing Producer who wants to take their skills to the next level on our growth marketing team. This role would include the opportunity to expand your knowledge base to other retention marketing channels such as push notifications and direct mail. Day to day you will be the gateway to all things email. You will think about long term strategy, execution and QA of campaigns, and help monitor KPIs. If you love diving into data to understand user behavior and response, and are great at creating user flows that are engaging and incentivizes users to think "Secondhand First," this is the position for you.

*thredUP is relocating to Oakland in Fall '19. This role will be expected to work in SF until then.


  • Manage various email campaigns, including the template designs, calls-to-action, and content used in our email coding and sends
  • Carrying out segmentation of the database and implement retention strategies
  • Work with a technical team to help execute hyper personalize and data driven email campaigns
  • Work with a creative team to develop and test message templates that upholds brand specifications
  • Develop documentation and road maps for processes, A/B tests, and promotions that succeed through email
  • Positive self starter who is able to work quickly and effectively in a fast-paced, start-up environment.


  • 2-3 years past experience with email marketing, lead nurturing, marketing automation, and web analytics
  • Proficient knowledge of HTML/CSS and ability to direct the design of responsive HTML based email creative
  • Proficiency and experience in email marketing and marketing automation technology. Responsys experience a huge PLUS
  • Enjoys thinking analytically to derive meaning from data through A/B testing and email optimization
  • Experience developing overall email strategy, including trigger based email campaigns
  • Working knowledge of templating languages such as Responsys Personalization Language (RPL), FreeMarker Template Language (FTL), or similar
  • Working knowledge of SQL queries to build specific customer list targets
  • Understanding of email marketing concepts, CAN-SPAM, and metrics such as Sender Score, deliverability, and sender reputation
  • Successful candidate will be comfortable working cross functionally with marketing and engineering teams, has strong interpersonal skills, and thrives while working in ambiguity.
