Differences Between Swim Trunks and Board Shorts
For the longest time, swim trunks were one of the few choices boys and men had for beachwear. However, in the 1960s, surfing as a sport and hobby started to take the world by storm, and surfers had their own style of swimwear they preferred to wear: board shorts.
Board shorts and swim trunks are both made from polyester or nylon to dry quickly. While board shorts tend to hit at the knee or slightly below it, swim trunks are usually shorter. Additionally, while swim trunks typically have an elastic waist, board shorts have a Velcro fly and lace-up fly on top of that. Finally, since board shorts don't have an elastic waist and require the hips to hold them up, they rest a bit lower on the hips when compared with swim trunks.
For a Perfect Swimming Day
Whether your boy prefers the look of swim trunks or board shorts, it's easy to put together the ideal beach day outfit for him. At thredUP, you'll find popular brands such as Old Navy and Gymboree that make the style of boys' swimwear he wants. Once he chooses his favorite design or color, pick out a boys' tank top he can wear with his swimwear. Finally, don't forget to get a pair of sandals or flip-flops, and he'll be ready to hit the beach or pool in style.
Works as a Casual Outfit
You can find swimwear that's so stylish and comfortable, it can also double as boys' shorts on a casual day. Whether he's heading to a picnic, barbecue, or simply helping you run errands around town, he can pair a soft T-shirt with a pair of board shorts or swim trunks for the perfect casual look.
With this convenient outfit, if the opportunity to go for a swim presents itself, he's already dressed in his swimwear and ready to go. Additionally, swimwear is flexible enough that he can even join in a volleyball game or basketball game without having to change into boys' activewear.
Make Sure You Have All the Essentials
The perfect swimwear isn't the only thing your boy needs when he heads to the beach or pool. Protect the skin on his chest, back, and shoulders from strong sun rays, wind, and sand with a rash guard. You can go for a design that's the same as his swimwear, or you can choose a solid color that will match several pieces. A good pair of sunglasses and a hat are also must-haves for protecting him from the sun when he's out having fun.
When the water starts calling his name, make sure your little guy looks good and feels great in like-new boys' swimwear at thredUP.
