The Diesel Story
Adriano Goldschmied and Renzo Rosso founded Diesel S.p.A., or simply Diesel, in Molvena, Italy, in 1978. It was a long time coming for Rosso, who started making jeans for himself and his friends on his mother's sewing machine at the tender age of 15. He honed his skills at an industrial textile manufacturing college before taking a job with clothing maker Moltex, owned by Goldschmied, in 1976.
Moltex became the Diesel brand when Rosso bought a 40% stake in the business in 1978. It changed its name to the more marketable Diesel and began specializing in the jeans it's known for today. In 1985, Rosso became Diesel's sole owner, after buying out Goldschmied for half a million dollars.
In 1995, Diesel became online pioneers once it launched one of the world's first major fashion websites. By 1997, it was selling Diesel jeans online, opening up a global market for its prized denim Diesel pants. In 2008, Diesel launched its high-end luxury line Diesel Black Gold.
Discover the Diesel Collection
Diesel built its reputation on its denim jeans, and these fashion staples continue to be a central part of any Diesel collection. They're available in a variety of cuts to flatter all figures, including Diesel bootcut jeans and Diesel skinny jeans.
Diesel denim jeans are complemented by other apparel items including Diesel shirts, tees, leather jackets, sweaters, and women's dresses. The apparel items are classic with a modern edge. They're the ideal apparel items for heading to the mall, hitting a bar, or enjoying lunch at a casual restaurant. While some pieces deliver an occasional pop of color, by using predominantly neutral hues like black, gray, and natural blue denim, Diesel makes its clothing easy to mix and match.
Diesel also creates fragrances and accessories, including glasses and watches.

Madewell is a division of J. Crew that is targeted at a younger female audience than its flagship line. Like Diesel, Madewell is known for timeless, versatile pieces that have a naturally cool vibe. Madewell's clothes tend to be a little more feminine, with pale, soft colors, rather than the dark blues, blacks, and grays that dominate Diesel's collections.
7 For All Mankind is also a jean specialist, but unlike Diesel, its denim offerings are made here in the United States. Its jeans are typically tight-fitting, with a low rise that shows off slender bodies. They're often embellished with unique contrasting stitching on the pockets and even a smattering of Swarovski crystals. Over time, 7 For All Mankind has expanded its range, adding other denim products including jackets, shorts, and skirts.
