Anyone who's ever gone shopping will tell you that H&M is the place to get fashion forward, affordable clothing that will never go out of style. H&M is recognized today as one of the biggest fashion and clothing empires in the world of retail, boasting a wide selection of products from tops, to shoes, and everything else in between. While H&M enjoys a lofty position in the fashion world today, it did come from much smaller and simpler beginnings. This now multi-billion dollar enterprise was once nothing more than a modest shop with a small dream – to provide women with comfortable and classy clothing at an affordable price.
Founded for Women
When H&M first opened its doors to the general public of Vasteras, Sweden in 1947, it had a much smaller product line-up compared to what it boasts today. Back in those first few years, H&M went by the name Hennes, which in Swedish translates to “her's.” True to its name, Hennes catered purely to women with its entire store selling items strictly for females. It wasn't until 1969 that Hennes decided to take their product line-up to the next level by releasing both men and children's wear in the same year. It was also during this time that Erling Persson, Hennes founder, decided to change the name to Hennes and Maruitz after purchasing a hunting and fishing gear retail store named Maruitz Widforss.
With years of expansion and development, H&M managed to spread to other locations throughout the globe allowing it to become one of the strongest contenders in the fashion retail industry, particularly in Asia. Today, H&M retails not only clothes for men, women, and children, but also offers furniture and other home décor items for a full on shopping experience.
Being among the best fashion retail brands isn't easy, which is why H&M strives to bring forward the latest and greatest casual fashion finds to their consumers on a consistent basis. H&M has released countless of collections, including the H&M L.O.G.G. line-up which features fresh, fierce, and fun clothing options guaranteed to turn your everyday outfit into a timelessly stylish ensemble. H&M dresses, tops, pants, shoes, and accessories all boast a signature style of their own, allowing consumers to look their best effortlessly, everyday. Among H&M's contemporaries is the equally successful Forever 21 brand, which proudly shares a healthy competition with the Swedish clothing brand we all know and love.
