At thredUP, we believe that change starts with choices, like choosing used over new. And, we’re thrilled to announce a new kind of shop embracing that very concept.

“A Circular Store,” an immersive shopping experience in partnership with Madewell Forever, is aimed at educating consumers on the impact of circular fashion — all while providing a covetable assortment of secondhand finds. You can peep the one-of-a-kind shop on TikTok!

Wear

The concept shop marks the first time customers can shop a full assortment of preloved Madewell sourced from thredUP (IRL!). Shoppers can choose from categories beyond denim — think dresses, jackets, and more — with prices ranging from $10-40 (AKA: a secondhand paradise for Madewell devotees).

“For too long, the fashion industry has operated with a linear, disposable model. We’ve designed a store to represent the future of fashion — a circular future in which retailers design for longevity and consumers shop with resale in mind. Our hope is that visitors will leave inspired and armed with the knowledge they need to take a more sustainable approach to their wardrobes. We believe that retail and resale working together is a necessary next step in achieving our vision of a circular future for fashion.”

Designed Hoping to inspire customers to extend the life of clothes, stats about fashion waste and steps for creating a circular wardrobe create impactful touchpoints throughout the store and also make for Instagrammable moments — #thriftloudly. For a truly interactive experience, QR codes at various stations offer a deeper dive into how to buy, wear, care for, and pass on clothes for the planet.

Repair

In addition to the amazing selection of gently-used Madewell styles, A Circular Store features a mending station. Visitors can bring their clothes in need of some TLC and get them expertly repaired on-site or tailor clothes purchased in store to keep them in the circular economy and help reduce the consumption of new styles. And, drumroll, for an officially circular experience, customers can grab a thredUP Clean Out Kit to help extend the lifecycle of gently used clothes and keep them out of landfills.

– 36 billion clothing items end up in landfills every year

– 95% of the apparel thrown away in the U.S. annually could be recycled or reused
