We launched as a men's shirt swapping company.
In 2009, our co-founder and CEO James Reinhart realized he had a closet full of clothes he didn’t wear. He wasn’t alone. He set out to modernize thrifting by creating a smarter way to shop and sell secondhand clothes. Now we’re one of the largest resale platforms for women’s and kids’ apparel, transforming closets and giving new life to used clothes. That’s what we like to call a pivot.
We believe diversity, inclusion and belonging is key for our team.
At thredUP, our mission has been built on extending the lives of millions of unique clothing items. Much like our inventory, we are proud to have fostered a workplace that is one-of-a-kind. As a company focused on diversity, inclusion, and belonging, we are committed to ensuring our employees are comfortable bringing their authentic selves to work every day. A unique perspective is critical to solving complex problems and inspiring a new generation to think secondhand first. Be you.
thredUP does good for people and the planet.
We give new life to millions of used clothes, offsetting the environmental and financial cost of fashion. We’ve processed over 100M items to date, and displaced 1B pounds of CO2e. That’s the equivalent of taking 35M cars off the road for a day. We’ve also saved thredUP shoppers over $3.3 billion in estimated retail value.Learn More
