How to Know If That Thrifted Find Is the One

Here’s the scenario: You’re browsing a thrift store in person (or at the world's largest online thrift store) and you stumble upon a piece that gives you pause. Right away, you’ve got the warm and fuzzies for this find. 

Then, a flood of doubt hits and makes you question everything. 

Luckily, you have this handy little checklist to help you figure out whether this is really love or just a passing fling between you and your potential closet addition. Here’s how to know when it’s safe to commit and add to cart. 

1. Is this something your look is lacking?

Take some mental stock of your closet and ask yourself, “Is this unique to my collection?” Maybe you don’t own many things in this color, print, or cut. If you can find something special about this find from other wardrobe faves, it’s looking good. 

2. Will it fit like you want?

Try it on or check the measurements when you’re shopping online. When measurements aren’t available, check the return policy to make sure you can try it on without a big commitment. If the fit is an issue but you just can’t seem to resist, remember you can always upcycle items and add fabric panels to achieve the fit you want.

3. Is it in your budget?
