How to Style Bold Black & White Pieces

Briana

While black and white are neutrals that technically go with everything, I know many people get intimidated when it comes to incorporating bold black and white pieces into their wardrobe. You don’t have to be a Moira or David Rose in order to make black and white styles drive an iconic look. It really is easier than you may think.

The checkered pattern on this thrifted Made In Lala plisse skirt gives a strong mod vibe. However, committing to such an iconic vintage look can take a lot of effort. Instead, picking a popping contrast color and focusing on silhouette allowed me to create an outfit I think is truly unique.

Because the black and white skirt is form-fitting, I decided to pair it with an oversized Torrid tee featuring a super cool stitched wavy detail. One of my favorite tees from the movie Aliens was a little worse for wear, so I rescued the artwork from it by sewing it onto the Torrid tee. Then I decided to pick up the red in the shirt with some red Crocs that I personalized with 3D-printed spikes. Notice I didn’t add much more black and white to the entire look to let the skirt really sing.

Our director of data science, Jess, also knows how to rock statement black and white with these amazing checkered pants. A black velvet blazer adds a little texture while a simple graphic tee makes it everyday accessible. So cute.

I also have a great thrifted black and white dress I’ve been meaning to style. Luckily, I can type what kind of look I’m going for into Style Chat and get instant ideas and product recommendations in my size! Super easy inspo.
