I could go on and on about the many reasons why I love thrifting. It’s affordable, it helps the planet, it fills my closet with unique styles. However there is one thing that gets my goat while thrifting—sizing. It’s the worst when you find something you love that’s either too big or too small. Because you’re dealing with one-of-a-kind finds, the likelihood of heartbreak is high.
Luckily, upcycling is our hero here. There is so much you can do with a needle, thread, and extra fabric if you’re handy. If you’re like me, A.K.A. barely handy-ish, a good seamstress or tailor can be your best friend and worth the investment when you find that thrifted ‘fit you just can’t let go.
When I laid eyes on this ombre tunic, I knew the size might not work and it was indeed a tad too tight. I wanted a more relaxed fit while creating something truly unique. Enter this glorious metallic orange zebra print fabric. It really brings out the color of the piece and its level of stretch is perfect for added comfort. My seamstress really outdid herself on this one. Look at the cute little ruffling at the hem!
