Secondhand Spotlight: Arvil

‍In honor of Women's History Month, we're profiling some of the many brilliant women who drive ThredUp's mission of personal expression through sustainable fashion. This week, we talked with Arvil, Senior Area Manager, and how she goes all out for impact in her demanding role.

TU: What is your role at TU?

Arvil: I began my career in Trinidad and Tobago, where I studied Business Management at the University of the West Indies before continuing my education at CUNY in the United States. My professional journey started in healthcare, working as a billing agent at St. Mary’s Hospital for several years. After relocating to Georgia, I transitioned into retail management, spending 13 years as part of Target management team.

I am a Senior Area Manager, where I focus on operational leadership, team development, and driving efficiency. My role involves ensuring smooth day-to-day execution, supporting team engagement, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

What is challenging about it?

Balancing operational demands with team engagement is a key challenge. Adapting to change, ensuring clear communication, and making decisions that align both with business needs and team well-being require a thoughtful and strategic approach.

What do you love about it?

I thrive in a fast-paced environment, where I can mentor and develop teams while driving meaningful results. Seeing my team grow, solve problems, and succeed is incredibly rewarding. I also enjoy working through challenges and finding solutions that improve both efficiency and team morale.‍

What is the most important thing to you about working at TU?

One important thing to me is building a strong, motivated team that feels valued and supported. When people are engaged and empowered, it drives success at every level. I also appreciate ThredUp’s culture of innovation and continuous growth.‍

Describe your personal style.

My personal style is people-first, adaptable, and solution-oriented. I believe in leading with empathy, fostering trust, and empowering my team to take ownership and grow. I strive for clear communication, thoughtful decision-making, and a balance between efficiency and engagement.
